Flat Cap House is a small independent shop on the East Lothian coast, just outside Edinburgh.
Most men who end up here have the same story. They have worn a baseball cap for thirty years, they have decided they would rather not any more, and they have discovered that buying a proper cap online is harder than it should be. The names are used interchangeably — flat cap, ivy, newsboy, bakerboy, driver, cabbie — half the listings do not say which shape they are selling, and almost none of them tell you what will actually fit a large head.
So that is the part we try to get right. Every cap we stock is one size with an adjustable inner band, fitting roughly 57 to 61cm, and we say plainly which shape each one is and how it sits.
What we care about
Fit before anything else. A cap that perches on top of your head is a cap you will not wear. The adjustable band is the whole point, and if the one you order still is not right, the exchange is free.
Shapes with their proper names. A flat cap lies low and close. A newsboy takes eight panels to a button for a fuller crown. A driver is snugger still. We label them correctly so you can find the one you actually pictured.
A person answers. Email us and one of us reads it and replies, within 24 to 48 hours on working days. No ticket queue, no script.
Caps last if you look after them
Most caps are ruined the same two ways: hung on a hook by the peak until the crown pulls out of shape, or put through a washing machine. Neither is repairable.
We would rather tell you that here than sell you a replacement in eight months. Rest it on its crown or use a retainer, and spot clean it. That is genuinely all it takes.
